The 25K by 2450 mission

Many times people have spoken to beginners about setting up testbeds and trying to achieve 25K resources by 2450, in order to be competitive in more advanced than beginner games. Okay. So you tried it, did it, and then in a real game against humans you fell far short of the mark. And you wonder… is it even possible… what went wrong. Well, yes it has been done often in real games.

25k by 2450 examples

This example is proof of that, from an actual game. Several players reached 25K or more and a few came close to that by 2450. Actually 2451 is the only backup I have of that. But that’s close enough. Study the scores and make notes, for example, how many planets the players had.

This example game was a team game with four teams of three players. And it was a huge packed universe, so that allowed for more planets per player than most games. Keep that in mind.

The zip file includes game files for 2487, the final year, and folders with game files for 2420, 2451 and 2480. The password for the Morph team, players 3, 9 and 11, is included in a text file inside the zip file. Same pw for all three races. So you can load the game files for m3, m9, m11, for those years and study the game and the races.

Game files: There Can Only Be One

These are the game files for the “There Can Only Be One” game. Included is the HST file which allows you to experiment and play/generate more turns. All players except 5, 6, 7 and 8 are not password protected. Most of those four were already deceased at time of game end.

You can view each players file, planets, ships, map, fleets, race design, score, and more. Even a few mostly small battles. One big nubian battle, see video, with the leader, player m1.

These are also the game files from which the “Mining costs… 3, 4, 5…resources” and “Nubian battle example” videos were made from.

Mining costs… 3, 4, 5…resources?

Mines cost 3 is the standard used by most… but… it isn’t always necessary. Sometimes you can use 4 or 5, or maybe more. It all depends on the universe, how you play your race, and who you play against.

Game password tips

These methods I use for remembering passwords might help you make things a little easier, especially if you’re playing in more than one game at a time.

Hyper-growth vs Hyper-Producer

Hyper-growth vs Hyper-Producer
By : Scott Phelps

Reading the responses to my revised Joat article and a number of other threads
in this newsgroup, it has occurred to me that examining the differences in both
design and play of what have been termed hyper-growth and hyper-producer races
would be an excellent exercise in race design and play. Most important to me is
the fact that this comparison neatly illustrates the concepts of designing and
playing a race in a consistent, thematic manner and the concept that what is
good for one race, even ‘automatic’ or a ‘no-brainer’ is bad for a different
race. Read the rest of this entry
